Juan Gris was a Spanish painter and prominent figure in the Cubist movement. Initially trained as an engineer, he brought a precise, analytical approach to Cubism, distinguishing his work from that of contemporaries like Picasso and Braque. Gris’s paintings, such as The Sunblind and Portrait of Picasso, are noted for their clarity, structure, and harmony of color and form. He often incorporated collage-like elements and explored the spatial relationships between objects. Despite his short life, Gris made a lasting impact on modern art, helping to refine Cubist theory and bridging abstraction with decorative elegance.
