Ivan Aivazovsky was a Russian Romantic painter, renowned for his masterful seascapes. Born in Feodosia, Crimea, he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. Aivazovsky’s dramatic maritime scenes, often depicting ships in storms or moonlit seas, earned him international acclaim. His most famous painting, The Ninth Wave, showcases his skill in portraying the power and beauty of the ocean. Over his career, he created more than 6,000 works. Aivazovsky also contributed to his hometown’s cultural life by establishing schools and museums. His legacy endures as one of Russia’s greatest painters of the 19th century.
