Sir Edward Burne-Jones

1833

1898

Edward Burne-Jones was an English painter and designer associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the later Aesthetic Movement. Deeply inspired by medieval romance, mythology, and classical literature, he created dreamlike works filled with elongated figures and intricate patterns. His collaborations with William Morris included stained glass, textiles, and book illustration, contributing to the Arts and Crafts Movement. Paintings such as The Golden Stairs and The Beguiling of Merlin exemplify his ethereal, otherworldly style. Burne-Jones’s work was widely admired in the late 19th century, and his influence can be seen in Symbolism and Art Nouveau.
