Frances Cadell

1883

1937

Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell was a Scottish painter and one of the four key members of the Scottish Colourists. Known for his elegant interiors, portraits, and vivid depictions of Iona and the Scottish coast, Cadell brought a refined sense of design and vibrant colour to his work. He was heavily influenced by French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, especially the work of Matisse. His paintings often feature bold compositions with decorative elements and a distinctive modern palette. Though he faced financial difficulties later in life, Cadell is now celebrated for his stylish and innovative contribution to early 20th-century Scottish art.
