William-Adolphe Bouguereau was a French academic painter known for his highly polished, idealized depictions of mythological and religious subjects, as well as genre scenes. A master of classical technique, Bouguereau trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and won the prestigious Prix de Rome. His meticulous attention to anatomy and surface earned him great success in the French Salon. Though his popularity waned in the 20th century with the rise of modernism, recent years have seen renewed appreciation for his technical brilliance. Works like The Birth of Venus and Nymphs and Satyr showcase his mastery of the human form.
