Pieter Brueghel the Elder

1525

1569

Pieter Bruegel the Elder was a leading Netherlandish Renaissance painter known for his vivid depictions of peasant life, landscapes, and allegorical scenes. Often called the “Peasant Bruegel,” he brought a unique blend of realism, humour, and moral commentary to works like The Peasant Wedding, Hunters in the Snow, and The Tower of Babel. His art reflects a deep observation of human behaviour, often layered with symbolism. Bruegel’s compositions are densely populated and brimming with detail. Despite dying relatively young, he had a profound influence on Northern European art and inspired generations of painters, including his sons.
