Paul Klee

1879

1940

Paul Klee was a Swiss-German painter whose whimsical, abstract art blends surrealism, expressionism, and cubism with a childlike sense of wonder. He taught at the Bauhaus and later the Düsseldorf Academy, where he influenced generations of modern artists. Drawing from music, literature, and nature, Klee created symbolic compositions with delicate lines, geometric shapes, and rich, varied color palettes. Works like Twittering Machine and Senecio reveal his poetic and theoretical approach to art. He also wrote extensively, including Pedagogical Sketchbook. Klee’s unique visual language and intellectual depth made him a singular force in 20th-century art.
