Jan Brueghel the Elder, son of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, was a Flemish painter known for his intricate still lifes, landscapes, and allegorical scenes. Often called “Velvet Brueghel” for his refined style, he collaborated frequently with artists such as Peter Paul Rubens. Brueghel specialized in floral compositions, detailed landscapes, and scenes teeming with activity. He was a court painter to Archduke Albert and Isabella in Brussels and played a key role in shaping the Flemish Baroque aesthetic. His works combined meticulous observation with allegorical richness, and his legacy continued through his son, Jan Brueghel the Younger.
