Sir Anthony van Dyck was a Flemish Baroque painter renowned for his sophisticated and psychologically insightful portraits. A student of Peter Paul Rubens, van Dyck rose to prominence in Italy and then England, where he became court painter to King Charles I. His elegant style—marked by graceful poses, rich fabrics, and refined expressions—influenced British portraiture for centuries. Key works include Charles I at the Hunt and Portrait of Queen Henrietta Maria. Van Dyck also painted religious and mythological subjects with emotional depth. He was knighted and buried in St. Paul’s Cathedral, leaving a lasting mark on European art.
