Portrait of Sir Brian Tuke

Hans Holbein
1527
Original dimensions: 15.2 x 19.3, 18.5 x 23.6, 24.6 x 31.5
The National Gallery, London
Sober authority defines Holbein’s Portrait of Sir Brian Tuke. Seated at a table with papers and writing materials, Tuke is presented as a man shaped by service, administration and intellect. His dark clothing and fur collar give the image official gravity, while Holbein’s precise handling turns the textures of office into a language of character. As Master of the Posts, Tuke helped organise England’s postal service, and the portrait quietly honours the power of bureaucracy in Tudor government. The sitter’s expression is guarded and professionally alert, less theatrical than watchful. The strength comes from restraint: authority shown through posture, hands, documents and severe clarity rather than flourish.

Questions & Answers

Painting reproductions are handmade replicas of original paintings. Reproductions give you the unique opportunity to own some of the world’s greatest paintings without spending millions of dollars or buying cheap prints.

Since our reproductions are handmade, there will always be some slight differences between the original work and the reproduction. Our highly-trained artists study each painting thoroughly, using similar brushstrokes and techniques that were used to create the original. As such, we endeavor to faithfully replicate the original as closely as possible.

We only sell handmade oil paintings, hand-painted by experienced artists. Each painting is made using oil paint on canvas, and each stroke, texture and nuance is created by hand. We do not use printing, pressing or any technological tricks to create our paintings.

Since we only hire professional artists, customers can expect museum-quality reproductions. You will receive a high-resolution preview of your painting before shipment, so you can rest assured that your artwork will be of the highest quality. Please see our reproduction samples for a better idea of the quality you can expect.

Absolutely. You will receive an email once the painting is ready for you to review along with a link to the order page, where you will be able to see a photo of the completed work. If you are not satisfied with some parts of the painting, please contact us with your suggestions for improvement, and we will rectify it until the painting meets your approval. Once approved, the painting will be shipped to you.

Since all of our paintings are hand-painted and custom-made, the time taken to complete the painting will vary. Typically, it will take 14 to 21 days to complete before we can ship the painting. This may be longer for larger, more complex works, or those with very thick texture. An expected completion period will be mentioned on the product description page, during checkout and in your email confirmation.

Of course. We are happy to meet your requirements when it comes to size (within limits). Standard sizes are shown on the product page, but other sizes can be selected using the ‘Custom Size’ generator tool.

AOf course, please visit our Request a Painting section and send us an image of the painting, or its name. We can reproduce almost any painting you have in mind, whether it’s listed on our website or not, and regardless of its size, style or desired frame. Simply send us a request and we will gladly oblige.

To add a frame to your order, go to any product page and you will see all of the available framing options there. Simply click on the frame thumbnail to add the desired frame. The framing interface allows you to preview the painting with various types of frames before making a final decision.

A rolled canvas is a painting that is rolled up and sent to a customer inside a protective tube. For customers wishing to frame the painting later, we will ensure that the artist working on the painting adheres to the specified dimensions while leaving enough space around the edges of the canvas for framing.

Yes! Shipping is free regardless of order size and without exception, so you don’t need to worry about any surprises at the checkout. If you need your order to arrive sooner, you can upgrade your shipping method at checkout for an additional fee.
